Google Freshness Update
We’ve been preaching this for the past year, but the Google Freshness Update and Algorithm has now made it official.
On November 3rd, Google announced that their algorithms would be updated to put a much higher emphasis on recent content. Their goal is to allow users to view a larger number of sites with fresh content, rather than providing search results that may be months or even years old.
Google estimates that the Freshness Update will effect as many as 35% of existing search queries. This is triple of the amount of searches effected by their previous “Panda” update.
Experts in the field suspect that this is going to affect small businesses the most who until now, got by on simply providing good information about their businesses and services without being influenced by frequency. The bottom line for the small business owner will be the need to emphasize:
- More content development
- Content updated more frequently
- Content relevant to the overall topic of the site
